The 4th IWA-YWP Spain National Conference, an event organized by the Spanish Chapter of Young Water Professionals, in collaboration with the Spanish Association of Urban Water Management Companies (AGA-AEAS), the Aula del agua “CABB” of the School of Engineering of Bilbao (UPV/EHU) and the Consorcio de Aguas Bilbao Bizkaia (CABB), was held in Bilbao on October 29th, 30th and 31st. Throughout the three days of the congress, young professionals from the water sector shared experiences and knowledge on the latest advances in the integral water cycle.

As a research center that is the CATABB, a representation of the center has attended the congress with participations in both papers and posters, on some of the latest research projects carried out in the field of water purification.

On the first day, Ámbar Quiñones made a presentation entitled “Determination of the best maintenance alternative for granular activated carbon used in water purification” in which she analyzed different conditions in which to keep AC filters when they are not in use in order to optimize their useful life. The second day was the turn of Ibon Garavilla with the presentation “Rapid methods of evaluation of the degree of depletion of activated carbon” which continues in line with the theme of activated carbon filters, in this case focusing on the methodology designed and implemented in the CATABB laboratory to monitor AC filters.

Taking advantage of the fact that the congress was held in Bilbao, one of the technical visits made was to the CATABB facilities where the progress of the latest projects carried out and the next challenges to be faced were explained, with the aim of making ourselves known and encouraging the participation of the center in IDi projects.
