Type of project: Secondary
Duration: 4 months
The sodium hypochlorite product degrades over time and the concentration of chlorate in it increases. Therefore, problems can occur due to high chlorate concentrations in points where remediation with degraded hypochlorite is carried out. CABB has purchased TWO laboratory equipment (potentiometric titrators) of the Hanna Instruments brand, for use in CABB DWTPS where this reagent is used and thus know the quality of hypochlorite when it is considered and compare it with the initial properties when it is supplied to the DWTPS.
Propose measures and an operation and maintenance protocol to minimize sodium hypochlorite degradation and chlorate formation.
It is proposed to initially install one of these equipments at CATABB in order to analyze hypochlorite samples subjected to different conditions (temperature, storage time, etc.) in order to elaborate a PROPOSAL OF RECOMMENDATIONS for the storage and use of hypochlorite from the reception of the same by the supplier in the DWTPS and to extend it also to the network tanks in which there are currently reclaimings. The use of the equipment will be combined with chlorate measurements by means of KITS to verify the results obtained.
It is proposed, in parallel, to make progress in the project, including a visit to the facilities to know the storage conditions. The characteristics of the hypochlorite supplied to the plants according to the specifications are requested. The list of DWTPs and tanks that have hypochlorite is also requested.
