At Venta Alta DWTP the activated carbon filters are being put into operation and it has become evident that the activated carbon manufacturers do not provide much information on how to start up and maintain the activated carbon filters when they are not in operation. Given the cost for a DWTP such as Venta Alta to regenerate these activated carbon filters, it is considered necessary to carry out experiments to determine the best conditions for the proper maintenance of the activated carbon filters, as well as to have a manual for their start-up, operation and maintenance.
The MAFICA I project is the first block of tests within the MAFICA GENERAL project, whose objective is the elaboration of a manual of activated carbon filters in a DWTP.
The project aims to deepen in the following aspects:
- Determine experimentally the best conditions in which to leave the activated carbon filters when they are not operational
- Carrying out a questionnaire on activated carbon and sending it to at least 10 manufacturers and/or managers of DWTPs
- Simulation of filter washings at laboratory scale
