In the Advanced Water Treatment Center of Bilbao Bizkaia (CATABB), the Halura III project continues to be developed. One of the objectives of this project is to evaluate the stages of generation and reduction of Haloacetic Acids (HAA) and Trihalomethanes (THM) along the Zadorra-Vitoria water purification process, using 3 different pre-oxidants (O3, Cl2, ClO2) for organic matter (OM). As a result, we will not only know the stages of generation and reduction of (AHA-THM), but we will also observe the effect that the pre-oxidant has on the whole process.

In addition, in parallel, the formation potential of (AHA-THM) is being studied at specific points of the process, such as: raw water, sand filter outlet and activated carbon filters. The formation potential in the raw water will show the maximum formation capacity of these two DBP families.
